WHAT'S IN AN IMAGE?

And God said, Let us (ADDED TO MANUSCRIPT) make man in our (ADDED TO MANUSCRIPT) image *, after our likeness: (Gen 1:26 KJV)

* tselem: an image
Original Word: צֶלֶםPart of Speech: Noun MasculineTransliteration: tselemPhonetic Spelling: (tseh'-lem)Definition: an image

The actual manuscript speaks of AN IMAGE not multiple images.

GOD'S OWN IMAGE

In the beginning, God created man in His own IMAGE. In the IMAGE of GOD Himself. Since the fall, MANKIND began making images of things they could see with their eyes and touch with their hands to serve as gods. God proclaimed through the prophets the foolishness of this:

Thus saith the Lord , Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. 3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. 4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. 5 They are upright as the palm tree, but SPEAK NOT: they must needs be borne, because they CANNOT GO. Be not afraid of them; for they CANNOT DO EVIL, neither also is it in them TO DO GOOD. (Jer 10:2-5 KJV)

GOD COMMANDS AGAINST MAKING IMAGES

Through the prophets, God admonished man and commanded them to make NO images of things in heaven, on earth or under the earth to serve them as gods:

Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: (Exod 20:4 KJV)

MAN CONTINUES TO REBEL BY MAKING IMAGES

Regardless of God's command, man continued to make images of false gods. But God promised that He would send Israel a prophet from among them that looked like them and that it would be His IMAGE that was made with God's own hand and that they would HEAR HIM;

The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken (Deut 18:15 KJV)

THE PEOPLE OF ISRAEL COULD NOT BEAR THE VOICE OF GOD BECAUSE OF HIS POWER

God could see that man desired to see, touch and hear their god and yet they could not stand to hear His voice because of His great power;

And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off. 19 And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die. (Exod 20:18-19 KJV)

God repeats His promise through His prophets that He would send His OWN IMAGE in HIS OWN LIKENESS to mankind so that they could hear His VOICE and see His SHAPE and serve Him as they served DEAD IDOLS made with their own hands.
God commands Moses to make a tabernacle or sanctuary so that He could DWELL WITH His people.

And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them. (Exod 25:8 KJV)

TABERNACLE MADE BY THE HAND OF MAN

The tabernacle of Moses was made by his own hand but represented the TRUE TABERNACLE God would make for HIMSELF to dwell in.

Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; 2 A minister of the sanctuary, and of the TRUE TABERNACLE, which THE LORD PITCHED, and not man. (Heb 8:1-2 KJV)
Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. (John 2:19 KJV)

And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, THE TABERNACLE OF GOD * is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and GOD HIMSELF shall be with them, and be their God. (Rev 21:3 KJV)

* God the Father dwells in the TRUE tabernacle and IMAGE that HE created to dwell in on earth but that He raised from the dead and took to Heaven to sit on the throne of Heaven. He will come down to man again to be the God of mankind and wipe away all tears from the eyes of those who accept Him.

Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? 10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and THE FATHER IN ME? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father THAT DWELLETH IN ME, he doeth the works. (John 14:9-10 KJV)

THE IMAGE OF GOD

God delivered on His promise to raise up a prophet from among the people of Israel that would be like them that they could hear without fear. This prophet would be the TRUE IMAGE of Himself. An image that could actually move and speak to them; not an image of a false god that could do nothing made from wood and stone by the hands of carnal man but the actual SPIRIT of the LIVING GOD in an IMAGE of FLESH that they could see and hear.

Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: 13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: 15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: (Col 1:12-15 KJV)

Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express IMAGE of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; (Heb 1:3 KJV)

The IMAGE of God in the flesh is called JESUS. God's very IMAGE made in the flesh of MANKIND.

JESUS IS THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY
