The Spirit of Truth

Have you ever heard someone say that if you believe in Jesus you should walk like He did? You must be Christlike. Some even say you must be perfect in your works after you accept Jesus. This had been a struggle for me for quite some time but just like all questions I have had concerning spiritual things I find that the answer is always found in God's anointed Word, the Bible.

1 John 2:6

He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

The bible says that Jesus is the firstborn of many brethren (brothers). Jesus is the only begotten son of the Father.
Romans 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
2 Peter 1:20   Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private    interpretation.
John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
John 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:
John 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be
damned.

So then we should be conformed to His likeness which means we become Children of God just like He is only we are adopted because of Jesus.

The problem is, it is very hard to separate our understanding from man's interpretation.
What does this scripture mean exactly? Taken on the surface I believe that it is clear. No one has a monopoly on God's Word.

2 Corinthians 13:1 This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.

If someone tells you what something in the scripture means you should be able to find it clearly in the bible in at least two places clearly without someone else having to interpret the meaning to you. The Bible can interpret itself. Yes many people are more learned than me in the scriptures, however, no one knows them better than the Holy Spirit. If he lives in you, He will teach you what the scripture means.
So the Spirit of Truth is a real thing that you must receive into your heart to be able to understand the truth. So you see it is not man that will interpret for you, it is the Spirit of Truth. Who is the Spirit of Truth?
Who was Jesus talking to here? He was speaking to His disciples. He said the Spirit of Truth was with them and that He would eventually be IN them. This is what Jesus was saying when He said;

When you open the door of your heart to Him by believing in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, you shall be saved and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 10:9, Acts 1:8)
Jesus claimed to be Truth:

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

So as we can see, you must have Jesus, who is the comforter and the Spirit of Truth inside you before you will be able to understand the truth of scripture.
Today is the day of salvation. Today if you hear His voice do not harden your heart. I believe that God made this appointment for you today if you are reading this. Don't turn away. Accept the anchor of your soul, Jesus who is the WAY (John 14:6) back to the tree of life which will allow you to live forever in His glorious presence and avoid the punishment that was meant for the devil. God is calling you. Come to Him today.
